WORLD BOOK DAY

     Every 5th of March is a day set aside to commemorate the reading habit across the globe, popularly called World Book Day ! It is in view of this that the National Library of Nigeria, Ilorin branch invited students from both Private and Government owned Secondary Schools in Kwara State to come together to discuss plausible means to revive positive reading habits among Secondary School learners.

   The learners, staff of the National Library of Nigeria, Representatives from Ministry of Education and Guest speakers were guided by the theme of this year's event titled "READ TO LIVE, LIVE TO READ".

   Amongst guest speakers who spoke on the importance of good reading habits was Dr. Adegboye, she is a representative of the "Women in Medical". Dr. Adegboye is a medical practitioner and a renowned writer. She educated the listening audience on major themes which according to her had derailed youths from the norms of the society. Of the many themes she highlighted were;

  • smoking;
  • drug abuse;
  • eating habits; to mention but a few.

   Dr. Adegboye educated the invited guests on the evils of smoking and drug addiction; she also encouraged them to eat healthy food that can help the brain to function effectively and consequently enhance reading.

   In the same vein, representatives from "Women in Medical" educated the students on precautions to curb the contraction of the pandemic Coronavirus (COVID'19).

   At the end of the presentations, learners were chosen from all attendant schools to give their Vote of thanks and appreciate the guest speakers and the Board of Directors for organising a memorable and graceful event. Dada Adedamola represented our prestigous school in delivering a wonderful vote of thanks.

   Meanwhile, at the Primary School, Teachers were busy engaging the learners on Reading Exercises.
